Hi Maree - have you tried browsers like Firefox or Chrome for the Imikimi site? Safari doesn't play all that well with some sites, especially Flash based sites - you might want to try other browsers on your Mac if you haven't already done so. Also - you might try using programs that came with your Mac to create banners for yourself. Preview has some pretty good built in tools you can use to edit a pic - I've created my own SingSnap banners in the past using Preview. Here are a couple examples: Sure, there are no sparkly animations, but Preview can do a good job with pics and text. I contacted Imikimi I have a new MacBook Pro and I downloaded Firefox browser to use for Imikimi but it is not recognising the Mac Plug-in I downloaded from your site and is still telling me I require a plug-in Maree and here was their frustrated reply: Dear Imikimi User, Browsers!

We haven't changed anything, but browsers are changing every few weeks these days. And often breaking us in the process. And that problem is particularly bad in the Mac world. We are working on two technologies to avoid needing a browser plugin: 1) A new technology for in-browser editing (later this year) 2) A free-standing, non-browser editor, called KimiCreator.

KimiCreator isn't quite ready for general release, but it is in good beta-release stage. If you would like to give that a try, respond to this e-mail and I will turn KimiCreator on for your account.

Thanks, Kent -The Imikimi Team. That's an -interesting- answer from Imikimi.

A robust plug in should be able to withstand minor browser changes, so it sounds to me like Imikimi has some issues on their side that haven't been sufficiently addressed. It's also possible that Firefox needs additional plug-ins that would work alongside the Imikimi plug-in in order for it to work. No clue what those might be.

Regardless of where fault for this problem lies, it still leaves you without a solution for that site. The KimiCreator beta sounds like an interesting possibility that may be worth trying. Hello Yada - thanks for joining the discussions here in the Apple group I started with the pictures themselves, downloaded from Google Images (I try to find pictures that are in Creative Commons, marked free to use). So, if the picture itself is impressive, it's because someone else made it that way in the first place - I simply edited it to fit my purpose Preview has two pretty powerful functions that I like to use - first, it can convert most image types into PNG files, which can then be edited so that the picture has transparent sections. You can see an example of that in the first two pics above - the cassette tape guitar player picture is unchanged in the first one, and all I did was add the text to it using Preview's text function.

For the second picture, you can see that I removed much of the background using Preview's transparency tool - I REALLY love using that tool in order to make use of the webpage's background. (If you look at, you'll see that same picture and that the black background of my profile is showing through the transparency there, while here, the transparency allows this page's white background to show through I also like Preview's text formatting functions - and I appreciate that Apple included a snap feature for aligning text to center vertically and horizontally. Makes it very easy to get some good results. Just found this. Maree: I successfully used Imikimi for a few years, but all of a sudden it wouldn't work.

I have also contacted Imikimi about their Mac issues and they don't seem to want to do anything about it. Their 'plug in' does not work. When checking out their Forum, all Mac users are having the same issues. It just doesn't work. I haven't been able to use Imikimi for a couple years now.

I really enjoy tinkering with graphic design so I purchased the iDraw app and use it for all of my graphics. It is amazingly similar to 'Adobe Illustrator' that now seems to be sold by a monthly fee. I also use PhotoShop Elements' (cheaper than PhotoShop) 'magic extractor' to extract various images and give them a transparent background. It is very intuitive and can 'cut out' pieces of photo's/pictures with extreme accuracy. I store everything on Photobucket and purchased a subscription so I wouldn't have to put up with all those silly ads!
